Keeping lunches cold

March 13, 2013

RefrigeratorThe Australian Food Safety Information Council released a national survey that shows on warm days 8% of workers who take a packed lunch make no attempt to keep their packed lunches cool.

What was worse –  20% of those with children who take a packed lunch to school don’t provide their children with a frozen drink or ice brick to help keep their packed lunch cool.

For more info check out the Australian Food Safety Information Council media release (click here) which has some great ideas.  One of the easiest options – freeze some water in a drink bottle and keep it near your food.

So how do you keep lunch cold on hot days when a fridge isn’t handy?

If you want to keep your kids lunch cool all day get a lunchbox called Fridge-To-Go. My two boys love cold meat on their sandwiches and just love cold fruit and yogurt. These ones really do work for all day and if they don’t eat everythinh I just put it back in the fridge and send it again the next day. Love them.

I send my son’s lunch to school in a Fridge-to-go Medium Lunch bag that stays cold up to 8 hours! I can even send smoked salmon or raw salmon sushi and know it’s bacteria-free and totally safe to eat!! http://www.fridge-to-go.net.au

Hi Noelle
I’m loving the sound of this Fridge to Go and I’m keen to look into it a bit more as I know lots of mums are struggling with keeping lunches cold when bags are sitting in the hot sun!!!
kindest regards
Louise
